Pontifical Missionary Children (PMC)

The Pontifical Missionary Children (PMC) is a missionary movement for children that helps them grow in faith, prayer, charity, and awareness of the universal Church. At St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye, PMC is an active and joyful ministry through which children learn from an early age that they, too, are called to be disciples and little missionaries of Christ.

Locally, the parish materials describe PMC as a community for children of primary-school age. Its core focus is to help children know Jesus, love the Church, and grow in a missionary spirit through age-appropriate prayer, catechesis, song, and acts of kindness.

What PMC Promotes

  • Prayer and Faith Formation – children gather for prayer, songs, catechesis, and simple teaching in the faith through stories, Bible-based activities, and joyful participation.
  • Missionary Spirit – PMC helps children understand that they are part of the wider Church and can care about other children through prayer, generosity, and solidarity.
  • Small Acts of Charity – children are encouraged to practice kindness at home and at school, and to make simple sacrifices for those in need.
  • Leadership and Virtue – older children may be given simple responsibilities, helping them grow in responsibility, obedience, attentiveness at Mass, and confidence in Christian witness.
  • Joyful Participation in Worship – PMC children take visible roles in parish celebrations through songs, processions, prayers, and presentations.

The Motto and Spirit of PMC

The missionary spirit of PMC is well expressed in the motto “Children Helping Children.” This captures the heart of the movement: children are taught that even small acts of prayer, generosity, and compassion matter in the life of the Church. Through PMC, they learn that they are not too young to serve Christ and to care for others.

PMC in Parish Life

PMC contributes significantly to the life of the parish. The children participate in mission-related celebrations, children’s liturgies, Christmas activities, and other parish events with songs, drama, processions, and prayer. The movement also provides a strong foundation for later involvement in parish life, helping children grow into responsible Catholic youth and active members of the Church.

In this way, PMC is not only a children’s group, but also a formative ministry that prepares future Catholic adults. It introduces children to prayer, service, missionary responsibility, and joyful belonging in the parish community.
