Outstations & Missions

From the parish center in Muyeye, the pastoral mission of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish extends to surrounding communities through its outstations. These mission communities are an important expression of the Church’s presence beyond the main parish church, bringing prayer, catechesis, liturgy, and pastoral accompaniment closer to families who live at a distance from the parish center.

In the parish source documents, the outstations are presented not simply as extensions of the parish, but as living communities of faith at the peripheries. They reflect the parish’s commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in evangelization, and they strengthen the wider parish through their own witness, participation, and local gifts.

Our Outstations

Editor note: If outstation structures change, update only the short list and contact/schedule note below.

  • St. Francis of Assisi – Msoloni
  • St. Josephine Bakhita – Mayungu

St. Francis of Assisi – Msoloni

Msoloni is one of the principal mission communities served by the parish. The attached sources present it as a growing outstation with an established chapel, regular liturgical life, Small Christian Community participation, and close pastoral accompaniment. Its patron, St. Francis of Assisi, reflects values of simplicity, peace, and care for creation that resonate strongly with the life of the community.

The parish sources also show that Msoloni has become a significant sign of mission growth. The development of the chapel, the regular celebration of Mass and the Word of God, and the support of religious and lay pastoral workers all point to a community that continues to grow in faith, organization, and hope.

St. Josephine Bakhita – Mayungu

Mayungu is another important outstation within the parish mission. The community is entrusted to the patronage of St. Josephine Bakhita, whose witness of endurance, hope, and freedom in Christ gives spiritual meaning to the life of the outstation. The parish sources present Mayungu as a community of faith marked by perseverance, devotion, and a strong desire for continued pastoral growth.

Although its circumstances have differed from those of Msoloni, Mayungu remains a valued part of the parish family. The parish continues to accompany the faithful there through pastoral visits, prayer, catechesis, and the broader mission of strengthening Catholic presence in areas beyond the parish center.

Mission at the Peripheries

The source documents describe the outstations as part of the parish’s wider missionary commitment: to take the Gospel, the Sacraments, and pastoral care to communities that may otherwise remain distant from the ordinary life of the parish. Priests, religious, and pastoral workers travel to these communities as part of the parish’s mission of service and evangelization.

The outstations also enrich the whole parish. Their participation in liturgy, prayer, cultural expression, and community life strengthens the bonds between the parish center and the wider mission field. In this way, the parish grows not only as one church in one place, but as a family of communities united in faith.
