Self-Reliance in Action: Farm and Livelihood Initiatives

St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye has also sought to promote development through self-reliance and practical empowerment. The parish sources show that this vision has taken concrete form in farm-based and small-scale livelihood initiatives designed to strengthen both the financial life of the parish and the dignity of parishioners.

Among the most notable of these efforts is the parish-linked farm project, which began as a youth-oriented initiative and developed into a wider training and livelihood effort. The project has involved activities such as poultry keeping, small livestock, and crop-growing, with the dual purpose of generating support and teaching practical skills. In this way, the farm became not only an economic initiative, but also a place of formation in responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.

The sources also describe smaller empowerment efforts connected to women and youth. Poultry and vegetable projects, though modest in scale, helped demonstrate that development can begin with small, realistic steps. Such initiatives created room for cooperation, mutual support, and the sharing of practical benefits within the parish community. They also showed that parish mission can touch everyday life, not only Sunday worship.

What makes these projects especially valuable is their deeper message. They express the belief that Christian service includes helping people grow in dignity, confidence, and self-support. Development here is not merely about profit. It is about strengthening families, building hope, and encouraging a community to work together toward a more stable future. In that sense, livelihood projects become a form of pastoral care in action.

Source basis: the attached parish sources explicitly preserve the Kadongoleni/Muyeye farm project, women’s poultry work, youth vegetable gardening, and parish savings/self-reliance initiatives as core development efforts.
