The Catholic Youth Association – Muyeye (CYAM) is a lively fellowship of young Catholics of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye who come together to grow in faith, friendship, leadership, and service. The youth ministry is one of the most important signs of the parish’s vitality, with young people playing an active role in worship, outreach, and the building up of the Christian community.
As a Jesuit parish, St. Charles Lwanga places special emphasis on youth formation and empowerment. The parish values youth ministry, education, leadership development, and service of the wider community. In this setting, the youth group is not simply a social gathering, but a place where young people are accompanied in faith and encouraged to become responsible disciples of Christ.
Who the Youth Group Serves
The youth group is a fellowship of young Catholics, generally ages 16–35, who come together to deepen their relationship with Christ and to find a peer community of faith.
What the Youth Ministry Promotes
- Faith Formation – through Bible sharing, catechesis, discussion, and spiritual encouragement, the youth are helped to grow in their relationship with Christ. :contentReference[oaicite:7]{index=7}
- Active Participation in Worship – the youth animate the Sunday 8:30 AM Youth Mass by serving as lectors, choir members, and ushers.
- Leadership and Responsibility – the youths take part in parish projects, catechism support, and service initiatives, helping them mature as Christian leaders.
- Service and Outreach – the youth participate in outreach activities such as helping with parish projects, visiting children’s homes, clean-up campaigns, and tree-planting efforts.
- Broader Church Participation – the youth participation in diocesan and national gatherings whenever possible, including pilgrimages, rallies, and wider youth events.
The Youth in Parish Life
The youth ministry is closely connected to the wider life of the parish. Young people help animate liturgy, support catechetical work, assist in practical parish activities, and bring energy, creativity, and hope to the community. Their presence is also visible in the parish’s story of growth, where youth testimonies and youth-led activities are presented as signs of transformed lives and renewed purpose.
Within the youth group, there is another group called Magis. Magis is a youth group inspired by the Ignatian spirit of seeking the “more” in the service of God and the neighbor. This aligns with the parish’s broader emphasis on youth empowerment, discernment, and generous Christian witness.
