Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye is a Marian apostolate of prayer, humble service, and quiet evangelization. Under the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, members seek to grow in holiness while serving others through works of mercy, home visitation, intercessory prayer, and faithful witness in everyday life.

In the parish materials, the Legion of Mary is presented as a spiritually rich ministry whose strength lies not in visibility, but in devotion, discipline, and loving service. It helps deepen Marian devotion within the parish and encourages members to live as active apostles of Christ through prayer and concrete acts of charity.

What the Legion of Mary Promotes

  • Marian Spirituality – members grow in devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and seek to imitate her humility, obedience, purity, and availability to God.
  • Prayer and Intercession – the Legion places great importance on prayer, especially the Rosary and the prayers of the Legion, offered for the needs of the Church, the parish, and the wider community.
  • Works of Mercy – members are encouraged to visit the sick, comfort the suffering, pray with families, and accompany those who may be isolated or in spiritual need.
  • Quiet Evangelization – through home visits, prayerful presence, and personal witness, the Legion helps bring the Gospel into homes and daily life.
  • Service to the Vulnerable – the parish sources connect the Legion with practical pastoral care, especially for the sick, the homebound, and those who need spiritual support.

The Legion in Parish Life

The attached parish sources show that the Legion of Mary contributes to parish life in simple but meaningful ways. Members pray over intentions entrusted to the parish, especially intentions placed at the Marian Grotto. They also support Marian devotion, encourage prayer in homes, and participate in apostolic service with a spirit of hidden generosity.

The Legion is also linked in the source materials to works such as visiting the sick, leading rosaries at funerals, and helping identify those who are homebound and may need sacramental care. In this way, the ministry serves as a bridge between the prayer life of the parish and the pastoral needs of the people.

Under Our Lady’s Banner

The Legion of Mary is inspired by the conviction that the Blessed Virgin Mary leads her children closer to Christ and teaches them to serve with humility and courage. This spirituality makes the Legion especially fitting within a parish that values devotion, service, and the quiet strengthening of faith in homes and families.

Through regular prayer, mutual encouragement, and apostolic works, the Legion helps keep Marian devotion alive in the parish and offers a path for parishioners who feel called to serve through prayerful, disciplined, and compassionate ministry.
