Holy Sacraments

At St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye, the Sacraments are at the heart of Christian life. Through them, Christ continues to sanctify, heal, strengthen, and accompany His people. The Sacraments mark the journey of faith from birth to maturity, from times of joy to times of suffering, and they remain a central part of the parish’s mission of worship, formation, and pastoral care.

The parish welcomes children, youth, adults, families, and the sick to receive the Sacraments with proper preparation, prayer, and pastoral guidance. Through catechesis, accompaniment, and community support, the faithful are helped to encounter God’s grace in a living and meaningful way.

Reconciliation (Confession)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a gift of God’s mercy and healing. The parish encourages all the faithful to approach Confession regularly, especially during the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent, when communal penitential services may also be organized.

Current guidance for Confession:
Confessions are ordinarily available Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with additional availability by arrangement. Editor note: update this line if local practice changes.

Baptism

Baptism is the gateway to Christian life and the first Sacrament of initiation into the Church. The parish joyfully welcomes infants, older children, and adults into the family of God through Baptism. Parents, guardians, and sponsors are encouraged to prepare prayerfully and to work closely with the parish in the process of catechesis and registration.

Current guidance for Baptism:
Infant Baptisms are ordinarily held monthly, with a preparation class for parents and godparents beforehand. Adults and older children are prepared through catechetical instruction / RCIA and are typically received during the Easter season. Editor note: update only this line with the current baptism day, registration window, and class schedule.

First Holy Communion

The parish prepares children to receive Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist through a structured catechetical program. This preparation helps them grow in knowledge of the faith, love for the Eucharist, and participation in the prayer of the Church. First Holy Communion is celebrated with great joy as an important step in the life of Christian discipleship.

Current guidance for First Holy Communion:
The parish sources indicate a two-year preparation program for children, usually beginning from the age when they are ready for catechesis. Editor note: update this line with the current class day/time and contact person if needed.

Confirmation

Confirmation strengthens the baptized with the gift of the Holy Spirit and sends them forth as mature witnesses of Christ. The parish accompanies youth and adults through preparation in prayer, doctrine, and Christian service so that they may receive this Sacrament with understanding and commitment.

Current guidance for Confirmation:
The source documents describe a one-year preparation process, with Confirmation usually conferred by the Bishop or his delegate according to diocesan visitation and parish arrangements. Editor note: update this line with the current class cycle and expected celebration period.

Matrimony

The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacred vocation through which a man and woman are joined in covenant love before God and the Church. The parish supports couples who wish to marry in the Church and also encourages those in civil or customary unions to regularize their marriage sacramentally.

Current guidance for Matrimony:
Couples are encouraged to contact the parish at least six months in advance for preparation, documentation, and marriage formation. Editor note: update only this line with the current office process, forms, or marriage-preparation schedule.

Anointing of the Sick

The parish offers the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to those who are seriously ill, elderly, preparing for surgery, or in need of spiritual strength and healing. This Sacrament is a sign of Christ’s compassion and the Church’s care for those who suffer.

Current guidance for Anointing of the Sick:
Families are encouraged to contact the parish office whenever a loved one needs sacramental care at home, in hospital, or in an emergency. The parish sources also indicate regular visits to the sick and homebound. Editor note: update this line if there is a dedicated sick-calls contact process.

The Sacraments in Parish Life

The source documents also show that sacramental life at St. Charles Lwanga Parish is supported by catechists, Small Christian Communities, parish groups, and the wider faith community. Preparation for the Sacraments is therefore not only a matter of instruction, but also of accompaniment, prayer, and belonging within the life of the Church.

We invite all parishioners and families to approach the Sacraments with faith, reverence, and openness to God’s grace. For the most current practical details, please contact the parish office or consult the latest parish notices.
