At St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye, education and formation are central to our mission. In the Jesuit tradition, we believe that faith and learning belong together. We seek not only to teach knowledge, but also to form character, deepen faith, strengthen families, and help children, youth, and adults grow in dignity, responsibility, and hope.
The parish sources present education as one of the most important ways the parish serves the community. Through schools, catechesis, youth formation, sponsorship support, and practical accompaniment, the parish works to nurture the whole person: intellectually, spiritually, socially, and morally.
Aquiline Tarimo Jesuit School (ATJS)
Aquiline Tarimo Jesuit School (ATJS) is one of the parish’s most important educational initiatives. It was founded to provide early childhood education to children of Muyeye, especially those from disadvantaged families who might not otherwise access quality pre-primary learning.
The parish sources describe ATJS as more than a school. It is a place of hope, where children are introduced to literacy, numeracy, language, personal discipline, social skills, and Christian values in a caring environment. The school combines learning with play, prayer, songs, storytelling, and attention to the well-being of the child. In this way, the parish seeks to give children a strong foundation for life and future schooling.
The school also reflects the parish’s commitment to inclusive care. The attached documents emphasize that no child should be denied early education simply because of poverty. The parish therefore works to keep education accessible and to support children with learning materials, meals, and a nurturing environment whenever possible.
St. Vincent de Paul Nursery School
The parish also supports St. Vincent de Paul Nursery School in Msoloni, an initiative especially directed toward children from poorer and more vulnerable backgrounds. The parish sources describe it as a charitable nursery that combines basic learning with care, feeding support, and a safe space for young children who might otherwise be left without structured early education.
This nursery expresses the parish’s commitment to serve the most vulnerable with compassion and dignity. It provides foundational learning, encourages personal hygiene and social growth, and seeks to give children a caring start in life. In the parish sources, this work is closely connected to Christian charity and to the conviction that education is a practical way of loving one’s neighbor.
Catechesis and Faith Formation
Education in the parish is not only academic. Formation in the Catholic faith is also an essential part of parish life. Through catechism classes, sacramental preparation, youth accompaniment, Small Christian Communities, retreats, and ongoing instruction, the parish helps children, youth, and adults to grow as disciples of Christ.
The attached sources repeatedly show that the parish values formation at every stage of life. Children are introduced to prayer and Christian values from an early age. Youth are accompanied through catechesis, mentorship, and leadership development. Adults are supported through Bible study, sacramental preparation, retreats, and opportunities for deeper spiritual growth.
Holistic Human Development
The parish sources emphasize that education should serve the whole person. For this reason, the parish connects learning with values such as responsibility, dignity, discipline, service, and care for others. The aim is not only to prepare children for school or adults for parish roles, but to form people who can contribute positively to family life, Church life, and society.
This holistic approach is also visible in the parish’s concern for meals, health awareness, school support, mentoring, and the practical needs of children and families. In this way, education and formation are linked to the wider mission of building a Christian community that promotes dignity and peaceful coexistence among all people.
Education Sponsorship and Support
The attached materials also show that the parish helps connect needy children and young people with educational support where possible. Through parish structures, recommendations, and benefactors, some learners have received assistance with fees, uniforms, and other school needs. This support reflects the parish’s belief that education can open doors, break cycles of poverty, and strengthen the future of families and the wider community.
The Jesuit Vision of Education
As a Jesuit parish, St. Charles Lwanga values education as a path of service, justice, and hope. The parish sources connect this vision with youth empowerment, formation of conscience, encouragement of vocations, and care for those on the margins. In this spirit, education is not treated as a separate project, but as part of the Church’s mission to accompany people toward fuller life in Christ.
