Christian Communities

One of the pillars of life at St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye is the network of Small Christian Communities (Jumuiya). These are neighborhood-based communities of Catholic families and individuals who gather regularly for prayer, Scripture sharing, fellowship, and mutual support. They help make parish life personal and accessible, ensuring that faith is lived not only in the church building but also in homes and neighborhoods.

In the parish sources, the Jumuiya are described as the “domestic church in action”. They strengthen bonds among parishioners, help identify pastoral needs, support sacramental preparation, and connect the wider parish mission with everyday life. Through them, parishioners are known, accompanied, and encouraged to take an active part in the life of the Church.

Our Christian Communities

Editor note: If the parish reorganizes or renames any Jumuiya, update only the list below.

  • St. Josephine Bakhita – resilience, hope, and faith in adversity.
  • St. Charles Lwanga – courage, fidelity, and strong Christian witness.
  • St. Veronica – mercy, compassion, and care for the suffering.
  • St. Bhakana – youthful zeal and dedication. (Editor note: parish drafts also suggest the spelling “Bhakanja”; confirm preferred local form.)
  • St. John the Baptist – repentance, evangelization, and preparing the way for Christ.
  • St. Padre Pio – prayer, trust in God, and devotion to the Eucharist.

How the Jumuiya Serve the Parish

  • Weekly Bible Sharing – members gather, usually in homes, to reflect on Scripture and apply the Word of God to daily life.
  • Prayer Meetings – the communities pray for one another, for parish needs, and for personal intentions.
  • Sacramental Support – the Jumuiya help identify and accompany those preparing for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, and care of the sick.
  • Social Outreach – members visit the sick and elderly, assist families in difficulty, and respond to local needs with practical charity.
  • Integration with Parish Life – the communities take turns animating liturgies, supporting feast days, participating in the Way of the Cross, and contributing to parish activities.
  • Leadership Formation – each community is guided by lay leaders who help coordinate meetings, communication, and participation.

Growing in Faith Together

The parish sources also encourage the Jumuiya to grow in responsibility, outreach, and self-reliance. In addition to prayer and fellowship, they are seen as places where members can support one another materially, develop leadership, and strengthen the missionary life of the parish at the grassroots.

Through these Christian Communities, St. Charles Lwanga Parish continues to live as a true family of faith. We encourage every parishioner to belong to a Jumuiya, to grow in faith with others, and to take part in building a parish rooted in prayer, service, and love.
