Each year, the season of Lent invites the faithful of St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye to pause, pray, and return more deeply to God. One of the parish’s most meaningful spiritual activities during this season is the parish recollection, a day set aside for reflection, silence, teaching, and renewal of heart.

The recollection brings together parishioners of different ages and backgrounds in a shared search for God’s mercy. Guided by the Jesuit spirit of prayerful discernment, the day usually includes praise and worship, spiritual talks, moments of personal silence, and opportunities for deeper examination of conscience. It is not simply a program to attend, but a sacred invitation to step away from noise and rediscover the quiet voice of God.
The parish sources describe these recollections as especially powerful because they create room for both communal prayer and personal encounter. Some participants spend time in silence under the trees or within the church compound, reflecting on Scripture and on the call to conversion. Others find healing through the Sacrament of Reconciliation or through a word of encouragement shared during the talks.

What makes such a day memorable is not only the teaching, but also the atmosphere it creates: a parish community praying together with seriousness, hope, and openness to grace. In a world often marked by hurry and distraction, the recollection becomes a gift of stillness and spiritual renewal. It reminds the parish that the journey of faith requires time for prayer, repentance, and a fresh beginning in God’s love.
