Charity & Outreach

At St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Parish – Muyeye, charity and outreach are not optional activities. They are part of the parish’s Christian identity and mission. The Gospel calls us to recognize Christ in the poor, the sick, the vulnerable, and all who are in need of compassion, companionship, and practical support. For this reason, the parish seeks to be a community where faith is expressed through mercy, service, and solidarity.

The parish sources consistently show that works of charity are woven into many parts of parish life. Small Christian Communities, parish groups, youth, women’s groups, the Justice and Peace network, and other ministries all contribute in different ways to caring for those in need. In this way, charity is not limited to one committee alone, but is shared by the whole parish family.

A Parish of Mercy and Service

Charity in the parish takes many forms. Sometimes it is material help for a family in difficulty. Sometimes it is a visit to the sick or elderly. Sometimes it is prayer with the grieving, encouragement for the discouraged, or practical support at a moment of crisis. The parish sources show that this work is often quiet and personal, but deeply important in the life of the community.

The attached materials also reflect a pastoral culture in which outreach is not reserved only for parish members. The spirit of Christian service extends to neighbors, marginalized persons, and others in the wider community, regardless of background. This reflects the parish’s commitment to dignity, peaceful coexistence, and love of neighbor.

Common Works of Charity and Outreach

  • Visiting the Sick and Elderly – parish groups and Christian communities regularly visit those who are ill, homebound, or advanced in age, offering prayer, companionship, and practical support.
  • Support for Families in Difficulty – when families face hardship, bereavement, illness, or financial strain, the parish responds through prayer, small collections, practical help, and communal solidarity.
  • Food and Relief Support – the parish sources indicate that local communities sometimes provide food and basic assistance to neighbors in mourning or other urgent need.
  • Prayer and Accompaniment – outreach includes spiritual support through prayer, rosaries, intentions, and pastoral presence in times of suffering.
  • Community Service – parish outreach may also take the form of clean-up efforts, awareness campaigns, and practical acts of care for the wider neighborhood.

Justice, Compassion, and Organized Charity

The parish sources also preserve signs of more organized charitable work. They refer to an informal charity structure linked especially to members of CMA and CWA, identifying needy cases and coordinating assistance. They also mention the wider Justice and Peace effort, which supports awareness and outreach in response to social challenges affecting the community.

In this way, charity and outreach in the parish include both direct mercy and growing structures of coordinated service. The parish’s mission is not only to respond to immediate needs, but also to strengthen a culture of concern, responsibility, and Christian solidarity.

Outreach Through the Christian Communities

The Small Christian Communities play an especially important role in this apostolic mission. The attached sources describe them as centers not only of prayer, but also of social action. Because they are close to families and neighborhoods, they are often the first to identify sickness, mourning, poverty, or urgent practical need. They respond with visits, small contributions, home support, and prayerful accompaniment.

This local presence gives the parish a human and pastoral face. It ensures that outreach is not distant or impersonal, but rooted in relationships and shared Christian life.

Charity as Witness

For St. Charles Lwanga Parish, charity is also a form of evangelization. When the poor are assisted, the sick are visited, and the vulnerable are respected, the love of Christ becomes visible. In this way, outreach is not separate from the Gospel, but one of the clearest ways the Gospel is proclaimed in everyday life.

This spirit also reflects the parish’s Jesuit and Catholic identity: a community that seeks to find God in all things, especially in service to others, and to live faith in ways that heal, accompany, and uplift.
